On
Saturday July 15, 2006 five school buses headed to Peterborough
with seniors from the GTA. This year the trip was a change from
Niagara Falls, where the group has gone for the past four years.
In total 255 people took part, which involved 30 volunteers from
the GGSCF who prepared food, transportation, and entertainment.
The seniors visited the zoo in Peterborough on the banks of the
Otonabee River, as well as the locks used by boats. Local retired
liberal MP Peter Adams, known to the GGSCF from previous events,
welcomed the seniors with gifts for all of them. Local Sikh families
Mohinder Singh and Sharan Singh greeted the seniors, and local
business "Love's Auto & Marine Tires" provided free
drinks on this hot day. The seniors also shared jokes, poems and
songs about Sikhs Gurus, many directly from the hearts of these
wise people; they were thankful for this small outing and shed
praise on the GGSCF.
