First Practice Run - A Success!

17 August 2008 No Comment

p7.jpg  On Saturday, July 27th, 53 runners and volunteers gathered at Bhagat Puran Singh Park in Scarborough to hold the first practice run in preparation for next year’s ‘Children’s run across Canada’. The participants were divided into three teams and each team ran continuously in a relay around a 250-metre track from 10:30am to 1:00pm.

The purpose of the event was for the participants to experience and train themselves for running the three hour shifts, to calculate the speed of the runners, and for the participants to get to know each other.

A video of the practice run can be seen below. We certainly realized that a lot of practice needs to be done to get in shape, and it’s not going to be easy! Anyone wanting to participate in the run next year is encouraged to do their own practice runs, and get the speed and stamina going - if we’re going to finish the run in the time we have, we’ll need everyone to run at least 1km in 5 minutes! Not an easy task for some of the hopefuls out there…. let’s see how we do at the next practice!
