Run Day 8
New Brunswick

In keeping with our daily schedule, today we covered more than 130kms. The blue team left in the early morning again, leaving our hotel in Moncton and heading towards New Brunswick.

The route today was quite scenic again, as it has been throughout our trip so far. For quite a large portion of our route, we ran along the river, and it really was very beautiful!

Along the way, we met many locals, while running and during our breaks. Everyone who sees us together is curious about who we are, and when we tell them that we are a team running across Canada to raise money for children’s hospitals across the country, you can see how excited they are by the initiative. They have all been very supportive and wish us well and success and safety for the rest of our journey ahead. To our surprise, and excitement, while running, we came across a group of individuals who were actually biking across Canada, going in the opposite direction as us. We stopped and exchanged information and were happy to run into another group of Canadians doing something similar. It really is amazing how many wonderful, thoughtful and active individuals take initiatives and provide inspiration for all Canadians.

At 6:00pm, the Blue team made a presentation outside the Provincial Legislature building in Fredericton, and in the audience were a few members of the Sikh community who heard about the event and made an effort to come out and support us, which we truly appreciated. The speech was delivered by Amritpaul and a cheque for $5000 was presented by Prableen to Sydney Peakcock of the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation, who explained to us that the Foundation will be using the funds to put toward new equipment for their neo-natal unit which deals with babies that are born very premature and are the size of a hand! She explained that research has shown that more babies survive if they have connection with the parents, but the hospital’s current equipment does not allow for it! It was great to hear that funds we are collecting would be used towards such a great cause of saving lives! It was definitely something to take in for all of us and we are truly glad to be part of such a great initiative!

We were also very fortunate and got a real treat today as Bineesh had worked hard and negotiated directly with the Director of Sales, to secure us accommodations at one of Fredericton’s finest hotels, the Delta, at a discounted price that was lower than we had originally reserved our accommodations at the Econo Lodge! The youth and adults were overjoyed and indulged in relaxation by heading to the pool and hot tubs! We truly appreciated a balance of doing hard work so we can contribute towards making a difference, and at the same time, have fun and enjoy some of the pleasures in life, which also made us realize that we really have a lot to be thankful for in our lives, and rather than taking it for granted, we all need to appreciate life and creation!
