Stage 16
Montreal, QC to Calumet, QC

The day started on Mount Royal, overlooking the city below and the St. Lawrence River in the distance. After the daily ardas, the runners proceeded down the western slopes of Mount Royal and through the busy streets during rush hour.  Progress was slow and steady as onlookers were curious with the Canadian Flag waving on the run vehicle within the morning traffic. The bright yellow shirts of the runners also got attention, Most people are taken by surprise to see children/youth running early in the morning and those who become aware usually honk their horn or wave. Other early morning joggers also wave in support.

All events have problems and this was no exception. We ran to a bridge only to find it have been closed due to construction. However, quick thinking meant the runners were back in the vehicles crossing to the other side. Half-an-hour later on the other side, the run continued.

We also passed through the Town of Lachute, a small town but with lots of restaurants and the main street was like on you would see in most European cities.

At the end of the day, we stopped the run at Calumet on the northern banks of the Ottawa River. There was a short weather event with very high winds, rain and hail, but fortunately, it disappeared as quickly as it came.
