Stage 17
Calumet, QC to Ottawa, ON.

Today is the big day as we end up in Ottawa, our nation’s capital. Ironically, we reach here exactly ten years to the day we completed the run in 1999. At that time, it was announced the only step up from running from Toronto to Ottawa was to run across the entire country, a dream of every Canadian child after the heritage set by Canadian hero Terry Fox.

The approach to the city this time was from the Quebec side through the city of Hull and crossing over the bridge into Ontario.

The run was completed at 6:00pm on Parliament Hill. The runners were greeted by Minister Jason Kenney and Member of Parliament, Navdeep Bains. Pavan Kaur made a speach outlining the reason for the run and the cause. Minister Jason Kenney addressed the runners and told them how fortunate they are to experience the vastness of Canada from coast to coast. He asked that the runners go back and share their experiences with ninety percent of Canadians who have not seen and can not imagine the beauty of Canada, the second largest country in the world. He wished them well on their journey on to Vancouver and mentioned that he would see if the Prime Minister could join the runners along the way. He brought greetings from the Prime Minister. Jagdish Grewal also came from Toronto to cover the event from the Punjabi press.

The evening was finished at Ottawa Gurdwara were the runners enjoyed Guru-Ka-Langar arranged by Mrs. Bhandari, President of Ottawa Sikh Society. Following this the runners returned to Parliament Hill to enjoy a light show. It was a very long day but a memorable one commerating the tenth anniversary of the GGSCF.

Oh my goodness. I still remember the day 10 years ago. I was only 13 when we did the run from Toronto to Ottawa and I still think about it all the time. I really wish I was able to be there and experience the exact anniversary! Can’t wait to see you when you get back.
You have done an awsome job. Congradulations to you all.

Congratulations to everyone involved. I can’t believe how quickly you made it to Ottawa. I have a bunch of pictures of the ceremony on Parliament Hill: http://inmysights.zoomphoto.ca/event/11336/
