Stage 18
Ottawa, ON to Brockville, ON.

As the residents of Ottawa slept on Saturday, the East Team was up and ready in front of the main gates of Parliament Hill. The sun was out for the start of the day’s run but soon disappeared behind dark rain clouds. What started out as a little shower in the quiet streets of downtown turned into an air raid of heavy rain by the time the runners were passing by Carleton University on the outskirts of the city.

While the people of Ottawa took cover, they watched in amazement as the runners got drenched – even in their yellow ponchos and as they tried to dodge puddles and run through the river the street had become. Many of the runners enjoyed it and the weather eventually cleared up as the sun returned to take its place in the sky.

As the day progressed, the run continued along Highway 416 and the runners were delighted at the sight of the 401 with signs pointing to Toronto and the St. Lawrence River. The run was finished just passed Brockville for the day.

Though many of the runners and volunteers are sad that the East Team will finish its last few kilometers tomorrow, they all look forward to passing on the Nishan Sahib to the Centre Team and returning home to Toronto.
