Stage 22
Toronto, ON to Newmarket, ON.

After enduring the typical morning rush on Toronto’s Don Valley Parkway, the Centre Team arrived at Queen’s Park to begin stage 22. After the Ardas was done by Amanjit Singh, the team did a few stretches and the day began, all the while most Torontonians were beginning their work day!

Running up Yonge Street was quite the treat for the local runners. We got a lot of curious looks and smiles! It was completely different from running on the rural roads as there was a large volume of people on the sidewalks.

Around noon, we headed to Tim Horton’s for lunch, however today’s trip was very special. Ranbir Perhar, a dedicated volunteer of the GGSCF generously provided the entire team of runners and volunteers a delicious and healthy lunch at his brand new Tim Horton’s location, on the day of the grand opening! The team was touched as they walked in and received claps and cheers from the staff! We thank Ranbir Perhar and his son Sunny Perhar for their continuous support and generosity. We wish them continued success in future endeavors.

After a great lunch, the team continued along Yonge Street. Despite growing fatigue, many up hill sidewalks, major construction and some soar muscles, the group continued at a great pace with high spirits. It was great running through the city as there was a lot to look at and familiar places. A local newspaper, called The Liberal, interviewed a few of the runners for an article and other team members posed for a photo and were interviewed by Rogers Television. A radio-thon took place on one of the major Punjabi programs, and the team in the passenger van was able to listen in and hear all the pledges come pouring in from our very supportive and generous community. Thank you to Joginder Bassi of Gaunda Punjab!

However, the highlight of today was the unexpected roadside supporters who we met along the route! The runners were pleasantly surprised to find supporters on the side of the road with banners reading “Great Job GGSCF”! Thank you to the Mistry’s for the support and Andrea (who came all the way from Bolton to meet us!) for congratulating us and make a donation to the run. These gestures gave the runners a huge burst of energy and motivation, Thank You!

The runners finished off the day in Newmarket, and headed back to Scarborough Gurudwara with more than enough time to go home and rest up for a 5am start the next day!
