Stage 25
Naiscoutaing, ON, to Whitefish, ON.

Centre team one wraps up their one week journey today as we reach Sudbury, Ontario. It has been a life time experience, which we will always hold close to our hearts. Through all the ups and downs we will never trade in the experience we had on the “Children’s Run Across Canada”. The last day for the Centre Team 1 was definitely a very scenic one allowing us to reflect on how beautiful Ontario truly is. We passed through many First Nations Reserves and were able to pass Inukshuk rock statues along Highway 69. These statues appeared every few hundred meters. Jiwanjot enlightened everyone by explaining that the First Nations leave these statues as a symbol to show that they were there.

The day started off with the yellow team running first through breezy weather and sunshine followed by the blue team running through pouring rain later in the day. Today definitely was a challenging day for the blue team as they had to face dreadful rainfall, but their dedication persevered and they successfully completed their shift. The day ended early for the runners since we had covered extra mileage the day before.

While on break the Yellow team went to the Red Carpet Inn where they found the owners of the motel hard at work preparing for the fundraiser dinner later that evening. Tarnpal Singh and his entire family were preparing food both tea and dinner for an evening program at the motel. The team jumped at the chance to help out because we were all so grateful for their hospitality. At night we met the locals who joined us for the fundraising dinner and they donated collectively $2176 dollars. At dinner we heard speeches from local City Councillors Craig and Callaghan welcoming the runners to Sudbury. Dr. Koka also congratulated the participants. Ravi Bala who had arranged for the dignitaries also expressed her admiration. There were also slide show presentations and speeches. The fundraiser was heart warming and greatly appreciated because of all the hard work. The night ended as a bitter/sweet day with the arrival of the Center 2 team who was pumped to run the next day and the departure of many members of the Center 1 team.

On behalf of the GGSCF we would like to thank Red Carpet Inn, the locals of Sudbury and the media for their support.
