Stage 36
Dinorwic, ON to Scovil, ON

The runners began their day bright and early at 6 am in the morning. After a splended breakfast at the Holiday Inn, we headed east towards a small town named Kenora. The yellow team began the run with an enthusiastic attitude; Avneet did the Ardas and although some of the runners were not feeling well, they were still able to pull through. Along the way we experienced some great scenery that made the run more enjoyable for all. There were plenty of small lakes and rivers along the journey and at one particular point, we all got off and took some great pictures. A couple of days ago some of the runners had seen a black bear that was minding its own business while they were running along the road. Many of the runners took pictures however, had to stay a safe distance back because mama bear could have been lurking nearby. Unfortunately, although I tried very hard to spot a wild animal I did not encounter any while running.

At ten o’clock we switched with the other team who greeted us with applause and cheers as the kids ran up to the meeting point. We had to travel quite the distance in order to get some lunch since we were in a remote area. It took about an hour to locate a proper restaurant that could accomodate our entire group of 15 people. The place where we chose to have lunch was Tim Hortons since it catered towards our vegetarian diet. We met a very interesting individual while eating our lunch whose name was Philippe Farley. Philippe was biking across Canada and had started his journey in Montreal on June 19, 2009. He had travelled to St. John’s on his bike and covered approximately 125 km a day. After he reached St. John’s he told the group that he had taken a flight to Vancouver and was heading east towards his starting point which was Montreal. Philippe is a law student who is in his last year of his studies and has motivated to achieve his goal of covering 6500 km across Canada by August 20, 2009. Meeting this inspiring individual was very motivating for the runners and we also had the opportunity to take pictures with this great athlete.

At approximately 12:30 pm we traded off with the other group and began the second half of the day. On the bus we listened to many punjabi songs that helped entertain us and keep the momentum flowing. The team was really excited to be finally entering Manitoba tomorrow, almost finishing the second Centre Team’s part of the run across Canada. Later on in the day, it began to rain heavily. Unfortunately, in the midst of the downpour it was my turn to run and I got soaked! We reached our motel an hour later and were surprised and pleased to see that there was a pool. The run for today went extremely well, and I was very happy to see that there was a hot tub where I immediately made plans to soothe my aching muscles. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow has in store for us.
