Stage 45
Parkbeg, SK to Swift Current, SK.

Today was the first time that the West yellow team started out the day. The team started from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. The weather was cloudy and mild, which was a relief from the hot weather from recent days. Surprisingly, our route today, which was a total of approximately 120 km, was hilly for the Prairies. The teams stopped midway at the Town of Morse to eat lunch and rest up. We enjoyed grilled cheese sandwiches accompanied by salad and fruit topped off with ice cream. The GGSCF would like to thank the park’s groundkeeper and local town people for talking with us and distributing pins to the members of the yellow and blue teams. The yellow team continued the run at 12:45pm after lunch while the blue team took their break. At 3:45pm, the blue team took over and carried on until reaching Swift Current, Saskatchewan, where the teams spent the night.

What made today different from the previous days was the number of trains we saw passing along side us. Being along the main transportation corridor and along the Trans Canada Highway we saw how busy and important this connection. It made us understand how the railroad united the provinces into the country we know now as Canada. All the towns are along side the railway and the large grain silos that take wheat and other agricultural products into the cities and ports and from there to other parts of the world.
