Stage 47
Maple Creek, SK to Suffield, AB.

Early in the morning, the yellow team began the final leg of the run through Saskatchewan as it neared the provincial border with Alberta. The weather was fierce, testing the mental and physical toughness of each runner. With the blessings of Guru Ji, the runners were able to make it through dark skies, rain, and strong winds. The yellow team successfully made it to Alberta, as birthday boy Jaipal Singh entered the province. The blue team soon came to relieve the yellow team so that they could “dry out” and continued the run. These runners were also faced strong winds and at sometimes showers as well. The team completed their first run of the day and handed the Nishan Sahib over the yellow team near Dunmore. The yellow team went through the busy streets of Medicine Hat. The team also made a quick visit to the world’s largest Tepee before heading to their hotel. Afterwards, the blue team took over and ran many miles to complete the day in Suffield. Along the way, the team met two Italians who were biking across Canada, from Montreal to Vancouver. The two were biking to raise awareness and collect funds to help rebuild towns after the catastrophic earthquake that hit the Italian region of Abruzzo. We changed shirts with the cyclists. The team also received a generous donation from a family passing by the runners.

Both teams then enjoyed a delicious dinner which comprised of pasta, garlic bread, and salad. The day ended with the celebration of Jaipal’s 17th birthday, as both teams indulged themselves in sweet cake. The stay in the evening was at the Ramada Inn at Medicine Hat which is owned by Jasminder Rotal. The GGSCF would like to acknowledge his hospitality and support as he opened his doors to the runners and provided us rooms free of charge and also making a financial donation.

It is very impressive to see how promptly you update the website with brief summary and pictures of the day. It not only keeps everyone informed of your daily achievements, obstacles you overcome but also the overwhelming response you receive from the local communities and passerby’s. Keep up the good work!
