Stage 49
Bassano, AB to Calgary, AB.

The glowing sun slowly creaped up from the east as the West Team travelled along the Trans Canada Highway to their starting point in Bassano. The team was eager to start the day and quickly began with the Ardas. Soon after, the team got warmed up and started their long trek to Calgary, the destination for the day. At first, the landscape was flat and to the eye, seemed never ending. However, the team enjoyed this landscape, even though it seemed never ending. This view enabled the team to get a glimpse of the different wildlife along the route, from horses and cows to hawks and falcons.

After three long hours of running, the second team arrived to relieve the first team. As the team started off their run, the landscape soon changed to up and down slopes which were steep at times. In the distance, the team could see the rocky mountains, although the visiblity was low, you could still make out their shape. The runners continued running through this terrain and arrived at the town of Strathmore. Both teams came together and ate lunch and soon it was time to run again.

The team ran a huge distance from Strathmore to Calgary where they were greeted by slight drizzle which quickly turned into the downpour. With the runners in good spirits, they did not let the rain deter them from reaching their destination. Soon the team arrived to the outskirts of Calgary where the traffic became unbearable. With construction and road closures, the team was forced to take an alternate route, a decision which proved to be smart. The route the team took lead them down a steep hill towards the downtown core. The view was extremely breathtaking and stunning. As the team approached Calgary City Hall, they formed and group and ran together towards the finish. At the end of the day, the tired yet happy team was treated to a nice meal by the Calgary Sikh Youth. The team is really looking forward to tomorrow as they will be joining Sikh youth from Calgary and running a lap around a local park.
