Stage 60
Hope, BC to Langley, BC.

The morning started in Hope as we left the Heritage Inn at 7am. The morning bus ride to the interrupted by a bird strike. A large bald eagle trying to miss a tractor trailer hit the bus head on and smashed the display window and making a mess every where. This caused a little delay as the bus needed to be cleaned up and the bird disposed off and the damage repaired. Then, following a ardas by Gursharan Kaur, the run started. The route was along Highway 7 north of the Fraser River. Along the way there were lots of horns being blown in support of the run. One Sikh gentleman stopped his car and donated $200 after seeing the youth run in the hot weather. Lunch was brought in by Paneet Kaur’s Nanaji. The runners were also challenging their personal bests. Chiranjeev, Jaipal and Harjot all completed over 20 miles run in one continuous go and Ranbir completed 17 miles and said he could still do more. Others while not covering as much completed longer distances. The hard effort was thanked by the sangat of Abbotsford where the runners were greeted with with so much warmth and enthusiasm and we cannot describe in words. You just had to be present to appreciate what happened. Professor Dhaliwal had organized a excellent program to greet all the runners and many organizations and sports clubs turned out to recognize the runners. Also Sher-a-Punjab radio station had been announcing non stop over the last couple of days about the run and this had a huge impact on getting the word out about the run approaching Vancouver. In the afternoon local representatives also met with the run team volunteers to check the route for tomorrow. Also late in the evening a meeting was held with those who had come in from Toronto and those runners who had taken part in other portions of the run. All now await the finish at Stanley Park tomorrow at Lumberman’s Arch as everyone joins in for the last couple of kilometers.

    Congratulations to all the participants.

Do you have any photos on the final leg at Stanley Park especially at the Lumberman Arch? It would be interesting to see those pictures.
