August 30, 2009
Stage 61
Langley, BC to Vancouver, BC.
Starting from Langley at 6am the runners successfully completed the last and final section of the Children’s Run Across Canada in Stanley Park, Vancouver. The run passed through Surrey, Burnaby, New Westminster, and Vancouver, through crowded streets and over bridges. The day was hot and the runners pretty tired and fatigued from the previous three weeks but none quit this final opportunity. The last leg of the run just over 3 km was around the seawall in which many others participated, from the ...

August 29, 2009
Stage 60
Hope, BC to Langley, BC.
The morning started in Hope as we left the Heritage Inn at 7am. The morning bus ride to the interrupted by a bird strike. A large bald eagle trying to miss a tractor trailer hit the bus head on and smashed the display window and making a mess every where. This caused a little delay as the bus needed to be cleaned up and the bird disposed off and the damage repaired. Then, following a ardas by Gursharan Kaur, the run started. The ...

August 27, 2009
Stage 58
Kelowna, BC.
Today was a day of rest, added when the Police changed their mind and agreed to permit us to run along the Trans Canada Highway instead of Highway 3 along the US border. This shorter route meant some free time and it was agreed to use this to visit the city of Kelowna. Kelowna has two Gurdwaras the Okanagan Sikh Temple and the Guru Amardas Darbar. The runners visited both and made a presentation at the Okanagan Sikh Temple where there were sangat members present. The ...

August 26, 2009
Stage 57
Dallas, BC to Merritt, BC.
The day started off a bit later than usual, but nonetheless, still quite early in the eyes of most. The starting point was up in the hills, more like mountains if one asked some of the runners. The ardas was recited as the sun came up from behind and the runners were very excited after reading a sign which showed truckers that a 6% downhill slope was coming up for eighteen kilometers! Onward, the runners went in the cool but sunny morning. The ...

August 25, 2009
Stage 56
Kamloops, BC to Dallas, BC.
After having a nice hot breakfast at the hotel, the yellow team started their day early in the morning. After doing ardas alongside the Thompson River in Kamloops, the team ran hard knowing they only had one shift to cover as opposed to the regular two shifts. As the day progressed, the weather got hotter and harder to handle. Heading through and around Kamloops on the surrounding hills, the team enjoyed the great view of the city that sat in the desert environment. ...

Stage 55
Salmon Arm, BC to Kamloops, BC.
We started off fairly early in Salmon Arm, we had a bit of a rough start because of the cold weather. Luckily though for us as the sun came up quick and it warmed up fast. The weather today was amazing as the high for the day was around 30 degrees Celsius. We started off as we always do with the Ardas which was done by Aman. The morning team were very fortunate in their run as they passed by the beauties ...

August 23, 2009
Stage 54
Rogers, BC to Salmon Arm, BC.
The day started off early in the morning as has been the case during this run. But the run has been rising a little later each day and so it is dark when we start and sometimes this becomes a safety concern and the group has to wait for some light to fill the valley. We started the run at 6:30 with a ardas. The first team was in high spirits after quite an entertaining night at the Heather Mountain Lodge, which ...

Stage 53
Yoho, BC to Rogers, BC.
After getting an early start the blue team began the run enveloped by clouds and fog as they ran the dark and dangerous corridors of the Rockies along the Kicking Horse Pass. The youth ran across the newly engineered bridge which has been cut through a mountain and over the steep valley of the Kicking Horse River below. In the early morning fog and the thick growth of the dark green forest, the steep rock faces, the fast flowing river made it a ...

They completed Ardas along the scenic view of the Rocky Mountains. It was a beautiful sight to the start of their day. Calgary, AB to Canmore, AB.
The members of the yellow and blue teams were rearranged entering the home stretch of the run heading out of Calgary. The new yellow team started extra early at 5:00am today to beat the morning rush in Calgary and all the road closures and construction in the downtown area. It wasn’t long before the run shifted from the flatlands of the prairies to the beautiful Rocky mountains that we had been seeing in the distance the last couple of days.
