The food bank is for students who are struggling with basic food needs. Food packages are available every Sunday from 3pm to 4pm in the GGSCF room at the end of the langar hall in Scarborough Gurdwara [Gursikh Sabha Canada, 905 Middlefield Road, Scarborough]. Food packages have the following items:
To pick up food packages please register using this link Food Bank Registration or come on Sunday and meet us and we can help you through the process.
You will be asked to provide basic information about yourself and your circumstances. All information will be confidential used to assess needs and how we can better help to support any needs.
The food being distributed is donated by the Sangat to the Gurdwara and packaged & distributed by volunteers of the Guru Gobind Singh Children’s Foundation (GGSCF).
The food bank CANNOT provide many perishable food items offered by Food Bank in the community (such as fruit, vegetables, milk, butter, species, cooking oil, meat etc.). Sometimes additional food items are left by the Sangat but can be “out of date”, while we try to remove these, please check and only used if it has not gone bad. Best before dates are meant for merchants and the food is often good for a long time after this date but use caution.
Life can be a struggle at times especially when you are away from home and or are alone with limited resources. While we the volunteers cannot help in everything you may need as we are not a professional counseling service, we will try our best, if you are feeling down and need someone to talk to come and see us.
