j-1It is almost coming up to one year while the Gurdwara food bank has been in operation. GGSCF volunteers runs this every weekend Sundays 3pm to 4pm when basic dry food are available to students in need. g-1This year the annual Guru Nanak Food Drive was held from November 1 to 15 for the Daily bread Food Bank. Even though we now have a ongoing food drive all year in support of international students in need, the Sangat still responded with 5248lbs of food collected. Read more…

h1This year to enjoy the warm and bright Autum colours the walk was held at Colonel Danforth Park, Scarborough. The 38 participants of all ages walked from 2km to 20km depending on their ability, along Highland Creek to the lake and then along the lakefront with some making their way to the Rouge River. e-1The Seniors Trip this year was held to Crawford Lake, on the Niagara Escarpment. The site is managed by Conservation Halton and features a “meromictic lake” which has two layers that do not mix and so provides archaeological and geotechnical study of the area since the last ice age when the lake was formed and is therefore of great scientific interest.  Read more…

b-1The annual Nagar Kirtan was a bigger challenge this year due to all the construction underway downtown. University and Queen streets had significant disruption with works underway for the new Ontario Line so parking for the buses was very limited and spread out over a much wider area and so direction to the sangat was more difficult and it took longer. a1Seventy two climbers this year huffed and puffed all the way to the top of the CN Tower this year via the stairs and raised $10,800 for the World Wildlife Fund. A large part of this support came from the Toronto Pearson Airport Runners Club who have become regular annual participants at this event. Read more…

gfb01Sunday January 7th saw the startup of the Gurdwara Food Bank. GGSCF made food packages for distribution to International Students who are in need of some basic groceries, due to financial hardship as all of us experience when we first come to Canada. Students in need were encouraged to seek help. Read more…
