Sunday January 7th saw the startup of the Gurdwara Food Bank. GGSCF made food packages for distribution to International Students who are in need of some basic groceries, due to financial hardship as all of us experience when we first come to Canada. The GGSCF had its first trip to the Sikh Heritage Museum of Canada during the winter break. The idea for the museum visit was from the youth themselves. Pardeep Singh Nagra the Executive Director of the Museum welcomed the group and shared why the museum was important and the dedication of individuals to preserve the history of those who came to Canada. On December 8th some new youth setup regular meeting to plan for activities that interest them and for the betterment of the community. The new youth got interested after helping out at the Gurdwara picnic and the Seniors’ trip. Two initiatives are underway, a trip for children and youth to the Sikh Heritage Museum of Canada setup for December 28th during the winter break. GGSCF volunteers held the annual Guru Nanak Food Drive from Diwali to the Gurpurab (10th to 28th November). Young volunteers put out boxes from the Daily Bread Food Bank, all labelled so that the food could be sorted as it was collected. Older volunteers also helped during the week and on the busy days to ensure the food did not restrict the sangat attending these two major events. Read more…

This year the Senior’s Day Trip was to Niagara Falls. Due to the pandemic we have not been there for many years. Two buses of seniors enjoyed the trip to Kingsbridge Park just above the Falls where they had lunch, tea and other snacks. GGSCF volunteers had prepared the food earlier with help from Scarborough Gurdwara and Sikh Society of Niagara Falls Gurdwara who helped to make tea and pakora. Read more…
Between 400 to 500 participants took part in this year’s Inspirational Steps. The event was enjoyed very much by all those who participated as the venue Terry Fox Stadium in Chinguacousy Park was excellent and the weather was cool. Participants ranged in age from toddlers who took part in the 400m race, children/youth/seniors from who took part in the 1000m race and open category for the 5km and 10km races. Read more…
Changes are being made to Inspirational Steps to permit greater numbers to participate and thereby provide greater inspirational to all the participants. With the pandemic the numbers have dropped as experienced last year and so the GGSCF has teamed up with other charities and non-profit community organizations as identified on the new flyer. The event will be held at the Terry Fox Stadium in Chinguacousy Park, Brampton. Meetings are being held with representatives from the all the organizations to make this event even bigger and better. GGSCF volunteers turned out to the bus seva this year and faces some challenges from the weather and road construction. WaheGuru’s hukham meant with a wet day, difficulties were experienced by those who came unprepared and got soaked, some were not patient especially when lining up for buses, seniors who wanted to go by bus from the Better Living Centre (BLC) to City Hall at Nathan Phillips Square Read more…
The annual Guru Nanak Food Drive was held from Diwali (Oct24) to Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Gurpurab. In total 12,275 lbs of food was collected for the Daily Bread Food Bank which was collected through two pickups due to the volume of the food that was amassed in the lobby.
