Further to the earlier Press Release issued on 22Sep2011, this is a update on Fauja Singh’s program when he visits us next week. Please let your readers/listeners know that he will be coming and that they can see him at the venues identified on the latest Press Release. At the moment we do not know if he will be running in the STWM as this depends upon his health but I know everyone wants him to and some papers have already reported this. However it would be good if you can encourage our community to come out and support him at Birchmount Stadium as runners may get a chance to run alongside him. Read more…

02img_7250It was a remarkable sight along the coast of Lake Ontario as runners and walkers clad in the signature yellow shirts participated in charity run this past weekend.  Over 150 participants and volunteers took part in this year’s 5 km Children Helping Children Charity Run along the Mississauga Waterfront Trail in the town of Port Credit.  A scenic route that began and finished at J.C. Saddington Park followed the trail along the coast of Lake Ontario. It was the first charity run since the youth participated in Children’s Run Across Canada in the summer of 2009. Many individuals were very eager to take part in their first event with the GGSCF and it was also very exciting to see many new faces who would like to continue to volunteer with the foundation. Don’t forget to watch Vision TV this week as the GGSCF will be appearing on special broadcast on the organizations history and future goals. The program will air this weekend on Saturday September 3rd at 3:30 pm. The show will be hosted by Baljinder Tamber and will include highlights from the Children’s Run Across Canada which marked its 2nd anniversary of completion earlier this week (August 30th).

simg_3613August 20, the annual fun day event was organized in coordination with the gurdwara picnic and tournament and held at Bhagat Puran Singh Park in Scarborough, Ontario. The fun day activities included an obstacle course, a bouncy castle, dunk tank and face painting. In addition, the foundation set up a booth to collect registration forms for this year’s annual run. Tuesday, August 16, 2011.

Tune into your television this week (or do not forget to PVR) as the GGSCF will be broadcasted on Rogers TV, Sur Sagar TV, and Vision TV.

Members of the GGSCF will be on Rogers TV for the South Asian Sports Show which airs Monday, August 22nd at 9 pm. The show will be replayed throughout the week and will be an interview segment regarding the events organized in the community by the youth. Check the local listings below for show schedule.

Next up, is a live segment on Sur Sagar TV which is simultaneously broadcasted on Sur Sagar Radio. Members of the GGSCF will be appearing on Sur Sagar TV with host Dale Mundi at 8 pm to talk about the foundation and future endeavours.

This Saturday, tune into Sanjha Punjab on Vision TV  at 7 pm ET / 4 pm PT as the youth will be talking with host Bob Dosanjh about up and coming events like the 5 km Children helping Children Charity Run on August 28th, 2011.

monthly_meetingSaturday August 6th volunteers of the GGSCF met in the multi-purpose room at Scarborough Gurudwara for their monthly meeting and hoped to meet a special guest who wanted to meet the youth during his visit to the Gurudwara. Ranbir started the meeting with a presentation regarding his trip to one of the charities the GGSCF works with to sponsor children from. Monday, August 1, 2011.

This year we have organized a run, race, jog or walk challenge that will take place Sunday, August 28th. The route is along the Mississauga Waterfront in the town of Port Credit. The registration fee for this year’s event is $15. Each participant is urged to collect pledges from their family and friends to reach our fundraising target of $5000.

img_3528sOn Sunday July 24th among the kabadhi and tug-of-war event the GGSCF children collected change from the spectators. In total $2300 was collected. The GGSCF were also presented with a plaque by the Brampton Sports Club for the humanitarian work that they do. The GGSCF would like to acknowledge the support of the Brampton Sports Club each year with this fund raising event which helps the children the foundations supports around the world in third world countries. simg_3514June 10, 2011, the Guru Gobind Singh Children’s Foundation had a booth set up at the annual Can Sikh Kabaddi Tournament in Wildwood Park, Malton. The event ran over the course of the weekend with the Foundation serving langer to spectators and collecting change. The weekend proved to be successful with the Foundation collecting close to $3500 in donations and change. Thank you to all those who gave donations and change and for those who volunteered to help.
