The annual Guru Nanak for the Daily Bread Food Bank was held from November 7th to 28th. In total, 4,888 lbs of food was donated to and collected by the Daily Bread Food Bank, who will distribute this to those in need across the GTA. The response has been tremendous and we would like to thank all those who contributed.
This year, the Annual Seniors Trip was to the Black Creek Pioneer Village and Northwood Park. In total, 64 seniors came by bus from Scarborough Gurdwara and Dixie Gurdwara. Thousands of spectators turned up at the annual two-day CanSikh Tournament, at Wildwood Park in Malton, to see the sports. With the support of the sangat at Scarborough Gurdwara, 2460 lbs of food was collected for the Daily Bread Food Bank. The food was collected from Vaisakhi on April 14th to the Nagar Kirtan on April 29th. The Daily Bread Food Bank appreciated the effort from the Sikh community and they acknowledged this in a thank you letter.
The challenge at this year’s Nagar Kirtan was the change in venue, from the Better Living Centre to the Enercare Building at the CNE. With the help of 770AM Punjabi hosts, a Vaisakhi Radiothon was held in support of the children sponsored by the GGSCF. The response from the listening sangat was overwhelming on this historic anniversary of the Khalsa. The annual food drive for the Daily Bread Food Bank was held from October 28th to November 13th at Scarborough Gurdwara on the occasion of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Gurpurab. This year the Guru Nanak walk was on a rough trail along the Rouge River. The ground was wet and slippery from the previous day’s rain as twenty-eight participants completed the 11km hike. This year the annual seniors trip was held to celebrate Canada 150. Three school buses of seniors from Dixie Gurdwara and Scarborough Gurdwara went to Niagara Falls and also visited the Gurdwara there where they had langar.
