What is Inspirational Steps?

Inspirational Steps is a run/walk that hopes to challenge individuals to better themselves and bring together the community to celebrate all the things that inspire us.
Objectives of the event are:

  • Challenge individuals to run/walk “further or faster that they have ever gone before”
  • Promote exercise & healthy living and build character/discipline in participants
  • Have fun and provide competition for those that want to compete
  • Promote volunteering, develop organizational and leadership skills within the community
  • Unite the community in strength and spirit
  • Celebrate, honour and remember those who have and continue to inspire us to take steps in all aspects of our lives

Fauja Singh when asked why he runs and what he does to train:
“I take one step and then the next, it is that simple and when I get tired I say the Lords name and take another step, it is what keeps me alive…”

World’s Oldest Marathoner Fauja Singh will start the event and give awards to participants.

Registration Deadline has Passed
Registration Deadline was on Monday May 6th, 2013
Thank you to those who registered on time.
We encourage all others to still come out and support the participants along the route.

Event Details

Sunday May 19th, 2013
Start at Dixie Gurdwara
    Basic Information

  • The event will take place on Sunday May 19th, 2013 during the Victoria Day long weekend in Toronto.
  • It will be a walk/run challenge for any participants who can choose distances of 5km, 12km, a Half-Marathon (21.1km), a Marathon (42.2km), or any other distance between these limits. Finish times will only be recorded for the four specific distances.
  • The event will be along sidewalks and boulevards (off the vehicle traveled portion of the roadways) following pedestrian rules. This will mean you have to stop at intersections and cross with the traffic lights when it is safe to do so.
  • Participants must be at the start location by 8:00am.

  • Participants of all ages are welcome to run. Those under 13 years of age must be accompanied by a participating adult. Only participants who are at least 18 years of age may participate in distances over 21.1km (Half-Marathon).
  • Each participant will be given a race kit, which includes a t-shirt and a bib. Wearing the t-shirt is not required but it makes it easier for volunteers to identify you along the route.
  • Participants are responsible for their own transportation to the race start at Dixie Gurdwara where there is parking available. Upon completing the race, transportation back to Dixie Gurdwara will be arranged by the GGSCF.
  • Awards will be given to the fastest runners in each of the four categories as well as all participants. The GGSCF reserves the right to withhold awards from participants on the basis of misbehaviour or unsuitable actions.
    Along the Route

  • Volunteers will be along the route to direct runners and request assistance in case of any emergency. Volunteers will be wearing yellow GGSCF shirts.
  • Water stations will be set up along the route. To do our part in helping the environment, we strongly discourage you from bringing disposable plastic water bottles.
  • Additional food and drinks will also be available at the Gurdwaras along the route.
  • Please encourage those of your friends and family who are unable to participate to come out and cheer you on!
