Guru Nanak Walk
This year the Guru Nanak walk was on a rough trail along the Rouge River. The ground was wet and slippery from the previous day’s rain as twenty-eight participants completed the 11km hike. There was lots to see — the autumn fall colours, the hills and streams, roots and boulders, orchards, reservoirs, a CN train, a visitor’s centre and lookout points on this new national urban park that has been taken over by Parks Canada. There are programs run by Parks Canada all year round with guided hikes in the winter which can be found at parkscanada.gc.ca/rouge. As we celebrate Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s gurpurab, let us think about all that he has added to our lives. He also walked extensively during his lifetime leading people from the darkness in their lives into the warm loving light of Waheguru. Is the world we live in still in need of such a message? If so what can we do as individuals and as Sikhs?
