Seniors Trip to Crawford Lake
The Seniors Trip this year was held to Crawford Lake, on the Niagara Escarpment. The site is managed by Conservation Halton and features a “meromictic lake” which has two layers that do not mix and so provides archaeological and geotechnical study of the area since the last ice age when the lake was formed and is therefore of great scientific interest. The lake has a boardwalk all around which was very much enjoyed by the seniors. The site also has a reconstruction of a Iroquoian Village settlement with a long house which would have been inhabited by Wendat(Huron) people. The seniors were taken around the village where conservation staff explained how these people lived over 500 years ago. The seniors were treated to langar provided by Scarborough Gurdwara and later in the afternoon to tea and pakora. The seniors provided entertainment with jokes and songs, some of the volunteers also provided some dance routines. The seniors enjoyed the day and are always looking forward to their next adventure.
