13 April 2013

vaisakhi_gurdwara_2013_1The Foundation set up a booth on Vaisakhi at Scarborough Gurdwara to encourage participation in the new “Inspirational Steps” challenge being planned for May 19th, 2013. Encouraging things that were new were a drive for online registration as a way to save trees, not using disposable plastic bottles during the event, making proactive steps to get the community involved in keeping active by walking/running and honouring Fauja Singh to start this event and give awards. Kathleen Wynne, the Premier of Ontario, also visited the Gurdwara to wish the Sangat a Happy Vaisakhi and stopped at the booth to see this new initiative by children and youth. The volunteers also registered children for the G.S. United Soccer Club which is managed by the GGSCF and collected Food Drive donations for the Daily Bread Food Bank. In the evening the youth volunteers organized a “Kids Korner” so that children at the Gurdwara could learn and play games on this historic day for Sikhs.
